How Mykolaiv celebrated the 235th anniversary of the city: concerts, fairs, bicycle race

On Saturday, September 14, Mykolaiv celebrated its 235th anniversary since the founding of the city. From the very morning, the residents of the city took part in various interactive activities and activities: bicycle race, fairs, exhibitions and concerts.

Bicycle race
For the second year in a row, a bicycle race is being organized for Mykolaiv residents for the City Day. This year, about a hundred people took part in it.
Cyclists were supposed to start at 10:30 a.m. from the Regional Palace of Culture, but the official start was delayed due to an air alarm. The participants rode along Central Avenue, Sadova, Velyka Morska and Nikolska streets, after which they finished at the 8th pier. After the finish, the participants of the cycling race could take part in a lottery.
Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych, head of RMA Vitalii Kim, head of the Office of the Royal Danish Embassy in Mykolaiv Jakob Hansen, Honorary Consul of Denmark Mykola Kapatsyna and other representatives of the local authorities rode along the route with the residents of the city.
«As always, Russian scumbags even prevent us from celebrating City Day. I congratulate everyone on the holiday, let's show the whole of Ukraine that Mykolaiv is a healthy city in which cycling infrastructure needs to be developed. Let's go,» Oleksandr Sienkevych gave the official start.
Exhibition of works by families of fallen soldiers
From 10 a.m. on Soborna Street, between Velyka Morska Street and Marko Kropyvnytskyi Street, a charity exhibition of paintings and crafts by the children of the fallen Mykolaiv soldiers was open.
The works were collected by the children, the children made them in memory of their fallen fathers. This is a charity fair, it is a very valuable work. There are also pictures, blankets, flowers, toys, boxes, stuffed animals. In total, more than 400 works were collected in Mykolaiv and the region. We notified the territorial communities, offered to join, and also organized master classes, from which there are paintings here, - said the wife of the fallen soldier Alla Holimbievska.
All products could be purchased. The organizers will transfer the proceeds to the families of the victims who took part in the exhibition. They also collected for the needs of the military and the Alley of Memory of the Fallen Heroes.
Concert in Kashtanovyi Square
At 12:30, the «City Flag» ceremony took place. The flag with the coat of arms of Mykolaiv was carried from Soborna Square to Kashtanovyi Square accompanied by a military band. After that, Mykolaiv residents were treated to a concert program «City on the wave today and always», during which representatives of the city authorities congratulated the Mykolaiv Paralympians, who brought awards from the Paralympics in Paris.
Also during the concert, a real wedding ceremony took place, the newlyweds were congratulated by the mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevych.
Denmark and City Day in Mykolaiv
Also during the celebration of the 235th anniversary of Mykolaiv, a mural was officially opened in the center of the city in front of the Office of the Embassy of Denmark in honor of friendship and cooperation with the Kingdom. In addition to Mykolaiv officials and politicians, representatives of Denmark also took part in the opening, in particular the deputy head of the mission of the Danish Embassy in Ukraine Ens Alsbirk and the head of the Office of the Royal Danish Embassy in Mykolaiv Jakob Hansen.
Also in Mykolaiv was the ceremonial opening of the Danish Solidarity Square. The event brought together residents and guests of the city, as well as international partners who support Mykolaiv in its recovery and development. During the event, a memorandum was signed between Mykolaiv, the Novo Nordisk company and the Danish embassy on the city's joining the Healthy Living Cities program, which is aimed at preventing chronic diseases and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
