Deputies of the city council will officially appeal to the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a call to raise the salaries of teachers in Mykolaiv.

They made the relevant decision during the online session of the city council on October 30, write NikVesti. 32 out of 33 deputies voted in favor, only one abstained.

«Today we are talking about the survival of the industry as a whole. Because teachers simply cannot survive on such minimum wages and are forced into any other specializations: nail masters, SMM workers, and so on. We can simply lose the industry,» said the deputy of the city council, elected from the party «European Solidarity», Olena Kiseliova.

The appeal states that since April 1, the minimum wage in Ukraine has increased from 7,100 hryvnias to 8,000 hryvnias. However, the salary of teachers is currently lower than the minimum established, it is stated in the appeal.

«Today, the official salary of a pedagogical employee of the highest qualification category according to the 14th tariff category of the unified tariff grid is 7,732 hryvnias and is 268 hryvnias lower than the minimum salary.

As a result, it turns out that young teachers with the appropriate salary of the tariff category, tariff coefficient, taking into account supplements and allowances, often receive a salary in the amount of about 6,500 hryvnias,» the draft appeal states.

With this appeal, the deputies urged:

  • to increase the salary of teachers of the 1st tariff category from 3,195 hryvnias to 3,600 hryvnias by adopting a corresponding resolution;
  • to establish a 30% wage rate surcharge, making appropriate changes to the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution №373;
  • starting from January 1, 2025, to restore the effect of the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine «On remuneration of pedagogical, scientific-pedagogical and scientific workers of institutions and institutions of education and science» №822.

Salaries of teachers in 2024

The salary system for educators provides a basic rate and certain allowances. The salary of pedagogical workers is affected by:

  1. Premiums for length of service (years of service: 20% for experienced teachers and 10% for young ones);
  2. Prestige of work (from 5% to 30%);
  3. Class management, checking student works;
  4. Working with students with special educational needs, managing offices, etc.

Depending on the availability of certain allowances and supplements and their size, teachers will receive different salaries.

The Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, has announced the increase of salaries for teachers starting in January and April 2024. This should have happened thanks to an increase in the educational subsidy, most of which is aimed at teachers' salaries. However, educators did not receive the announced salary increase.

However, he later said that Ukrainian educators should not expect a salary increase until the end of a full-scale war. He explained this by the difficult situation in the budget.

At the same time, there is a shortage of teachers of various subjects in the Mykolaiv region. Educational institutions are most in need of teachers of chemistry, physics and biology.

And due to the outflow of schoolchildren in Mykolaiv, they decided to combine classes in educational institutions that will work remotely. Because of this, as reported, some teachers will have to be laid off.

At the same time, in four months, the average salary of officials increased by 32% and exceeded 50,000 hryvnias.
