On Thursday, July 11, Mykolaiv was visited by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain to Ukraine Martin Harris and the deputy head of the diplomatic mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Ukraine Vagur Soosaar.
During the briefing together with the head of Mykolaiv RMA and the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, they talked about the progress made and further cooperation, NikVesti reports.
The British ambassador emphasized that despite the recent changes in the government of his country, their position on further support for Ukraine remains unchanged.
«We are here to better understand what challenges there are, what our partnership can be in the future,» said Martin Harris.
Partnership with countries will include issues related to the restoration of communities affected by military operations, medical institutions, and educational institutions. In addition, the partners will provide the frontline region with humanitarian aid.
Martin Harris also noted that Great Britain's efforts are directed at military training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. So far, more than hundreds of thousands of military personnel have passed through the program.
«Our new Secretary of Defense, John Geely, is dealing with this issue of continuing this program,» he said.
Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych, in particular, noted during the discussion that he discussed with the ambassadors the problem of the two-year lack of drinking water in the city, offline training and the return of prisoners of war.
«We talked not only about hard projects: infrastructure, military, but also social projects. From starting schools to helping return prisoners of war from Russian captivity. We exchanged contacts and agreed on cooperation on separate projects,» said the mayor.
