Deputies of the Mykolaiv City Council want to appeal to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a request to increase public coverage of information about prisoners of war and missing persons, as well as to take more measures to return military personnel from captivity.

Such a draft decision is published on the website of the city council.

In it, the deputies note that they are often contacted by public organizations and relatives of prisoners or missing persons with complaints about inappropriate treatment of them by representatives of state institutions.

«Against the background of pain and emotional exhaustion, families have to face, unfortunately, rare cases of rude behavior by representatives of various state institutions, whose competence includes the obligation to interact with the families of missing and captured servicemen. It is noted that today the attitude is organized at an inappropriate level, there is a low level of empathy and compassion, there are rare cases of neglect and ignoring the appeals and demands of the families of prisoners and missing people,» the document says.

Therefore, the deputies want to address Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk and Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets on this matter.

Among the demands of the deputies:

  • to take effective measures to return from captivity servicemen of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, to provide complete information about the missing;
  • strengthen public coverage of the situation regarding captured and missing Soldiers of the Defense Forces of Ukraine;
  • to once again appeal to our international partners to focus and draw their attention to the situation with our prisoners and missing persons;
  • to once again remind UN organizations, the Red Cross Society, and state partners of their obligation to ensure that representatives of these organizations are sent to places of detention of prisoners of war;
  • provide adequate social guarantees to the families of captured and missing Soldiers.

We will remind you that in Mykolaiv every week there are events reminding about the prisoners of war of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On September 8, in the center of Mykolaiv, about 150 caring residents of the city came to a rally in support of Ukrainian prisoners of war and missing persons.
