A soldier from the Mykolaiv brigade told how he single-handedly repelled the Russian offensive in Donetsk region

Yurii, a soldier with the call sign «Nightingale», who volunteered to join the ranks of the 79th Airborne Assault Brigade of Mykolaiv, continues his service in one of the city's TRCs after being seriously wounded. He took part in battles in Donetsk region, where he received numerous shrapnel wounds during an assault by the Russians.

The plot with the history of the military was shared on the page of the Mykolaiv Regional Territorial Recruitment Centre (TRC).

In 2022, Yurii, a native of Sumy region, came to Mykolaiv, where his wife Yulia is from, and volunteered to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Service in the 79th brigade brought him to Donetsk region. One of the battles became a real test: after the loss of his brother, Yurii was left alone in a position where he repelled the Russian attack. Yurii told how, bleeding, he tried to crawl to his people.

«I heard the sound of a drone. And then the mortar shelling began. I already understood that it was on me, because the drone was hovering over me and adjusting the fire. They still wanted to calculate how many of us are there. I was alone, so they beat only me,» recalls the soldier.

According to Yurii, he managed to reach the Ukrainian positions. On the way to the hospital, Russian troops again opened fire on the medical vehicle that was taking the man to the hospital, which made the situation even more difficult for the wounded soldier.

Then there was an operation and complex rehabilitation. Yurii could not immediately stand on his feet. The man says that the doctors could not remove a single fragment from his body.

«They didn't get a single one, they are all in me. Because they are very small. My hand still doesn't work, so it makes itself felt very much when it's cold. In the shoulder joint, up to the elbow, there are more than 20 shrapnel,» says the man.

Despite severe injuries, Yurii did not leave the military service. Now he works in one of the TRCs of Mykolaiv.

«If I could turn back time, I would do the same thing again. Maybe some people don't understand this, but if we don't defend our cities, the same thing can happen that happened to Kherson, which was under occupation. Therefore, it is necessary not only to criticize, but also to pull yourself together and go,» he concludes.

We will remind you that the Mykolaiv TRC recently explained how summonses are served and what fines are provided for ignoring them.

Also, earlier, lieutenant colonel Viktoriia Ivanova, head of the department for processing benefits of the Mykolaiv regional TRC, told about the benefits that military personnel and their families can count on.
