Ukraine will celebrate a new public holiday — the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity. It will be celebrated annually on 21 May.
The corresponding decree №883/2024 was published on the website of the President of Ukraine.
The document states that this day was introduced to strengthen the unity of society, strengthen national identity, support the free development of the cultural diversity of indigenous peoples and national communities, and honour their significant contribution to the defence of Ukraine's sovereignty and independence in the war with the Russian Federation.
The Decree came into force upon its promulgation.
As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allowed the reservation of clergymen whose positions are approved by the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience (SESS). The government adopted the relevant resolution №1498 on 26 December 2024.
