During 2024, the number of inclusive groups in kindergartens in Mykolaiv increased by 30%: from 90 to 118 groups.
This was announced by the head of the Education Department of the Mykolaiv City Council, Hanna Lychko, during a briefing on 28 February, according to NikVesti.
«If we talk about the number of inclusive groups, it is both unfortunately and fortunately growing. Unfortunately, because we have more and more such children. Fortunately, because we can afford it, open and provide the educational services that children with special needs need. At the beginning of the school year, we had 90 inclusive groups with 137 children. Today, we already have 118 groups with 237 children,» said Hanna Lychko.
At the same time, the number of inclusive classes in the city's schools has increased by 7%, she added.
«As for inclusion in general secondary education, unfortunately, we also see an increase in the number of children in need of such education. The number of inclusive classes today is 308, compared to 288 in the previous academic year. Today, they have 463 children, compared to last year, when there were 421 children,» said Hanna Lychko.

Back in August 2024, the Mykolaiv City Council approved the target programme «Mykolaiv without Barriers» for 2024-2026. The programme should enable the formation of a comprehensive system for the rehabilitation and integration of people with disabilities, and strengthen social protection for people with disabilities and other low-mobility groups.
In June, Mykolaiv hosted a conference «Barrier-Free Ukraine», where the «Barrier-Free Guide» was presented. During the conference, city council member Yurii Stepanets reminded that the Mykolaiv authorities should focus more attention on the issue of barrier-free accessibility of the city's infrastructure for people with disabilities.
It should be noted that according to the Dostupno.UA rating, in 2021, Mykolaiv ranked 13th among 19 large cities in terms of accessibility.
