78% of Ukrainians oppose Vladimir Putin's demand for the complete withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
This is according to a poll conducted by the Razumkov Centre's sociological service from 28 February to 6 March.
The study showed that only 8% of respondents would agree to the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from all territories of these regions within their administrative boundaries.
Another 5% of respondents would be ready to enshrine in international treaties the status of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as Crimea and Sevastopol, as Russian territories. However, 82% of Ukrainians categorically reject this possibility.
7% of respondents admit that all Western sanctions against Russia should be lifted, while 78% oppose it.
At the same time, 22% of respondents would agree to enshrine Ukraine's neutral, non-aligned, non-nuclear status in the Constitution. However, the majority — 56% — do not support this idea.
Sociologists note that, compared to June 2024, the willingness of Ukrainians to make concessions to the aggressor has remained virtually unchanged.
The face-to-face survey was conducted in Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhzhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Kherson, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi regions and the city of Kyiv (in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson regions only in the territories controlled by the Government of Ukraine and not subject to hostilities).
The survey was conducted using a stratified multi-stage sampling with random selection at the first stages of sampling and a quota method of selecting respondents at the final stage (when respondents were selected according to gender and age quotas). The structure of the sample population reflects the demographic structure of the adult population of the surveyed areas as of the beginning of 2022 (by age, gender, type of settlement).
2018 respondents over the age of 18 were interviewed. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%. However, additional systematic sample deviations may be caused by the consequences of Russian aggression, in particular, the forced evacuation of millions of citizens.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that any agreement to end the war would require Ukraine to make territorial concessions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that during his talks with the US delegation in Saudi Arabia, the issue of territories was discussed, despite the fact that it was not on the agenda of the meeting.
At the same time, the President stressed that all partners know Ukraine's position - never to recognise the occupied territories as Russian.
To recap, Akif Çagatay Kilic, Turkish Foreign Affairs Advisor to the President of Turkey, noted that in 2022, the talks were focused on limiting Ukraine's territorial losses to Russia to 3%, but today this figure is about 25%.
