Pivdennoukrainsk, formerly Yuzhnoukrainsk, is a city in Mykolaiv Oblast next to the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant. The Verkhovna Rada voted to rename it on 9 October 2024. In 2024, official figures put its population at over 38,000.

In May 2026, Mayor Valerii Onufriienko again called for a military administration after councillors failed to meet for a session five times. Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, submitted documents to the President to set one up. Since the city military administration was set up, budget and tariff decisions are taken by its head, Ivan Kukhta.
