COVID-19 is a coronavirus disease that doctors in Mykolaiv have been treating as an ordinary respiratory infection since autumn 2023. It comes back in waves: in August and September 2024 more than a thousand people fell ill in the city and seven died in Mykolaiv Oblast. In summer 2025 the new XFG “Stratus” strain spread across Ukraine, and in April 2026 the first case of the “Cicada” subvariant was recorded.
