The Ukrainian agricultural sector suffered more than 80 billion dollars in direct losses as a result of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.

This is evidenced by the calculations of the Center for Food and Land Use Research of the Kyiv School of Economics, conducted together with the World Bank.

Specifically, the total value of destroyed assets is $10.3 billion, an 18% increase over what was estimated in April 2023.

The largest category of losses is damaged and destroyed agricultural machinery, accounting for $5.8 billion or 56.7% of all losses. In total, as a result of the invasion, about 181,000 units of agricultural machinery and equipment were partially or completely damaged.

At the same time, the damage caused by the theft or destruction of already produced products is estimated at 1.9 billion dollars, losses due to damage to granaries — 1.8 billion, damages caused by perennial crops — 398 million dollars, animal husbandry — 254 million dollars, aquaculture and fishing — 35 million dollars

At the same time, losses, which include lost income for agricultural producers and increased production costs, more than doubled compared to the previous review, to $69.8 billion.

Total losses due to reduced crop production are $35.1 billion, additional losses due to reduced livestock production are $5.6 billion, losses due to lower domestic prices are estimated at $24.1 billion, and losses due to increased cost of production are $4.4 billion.

Given the scale of damage and losses experienced by agricultural producers in Ukraine, total reconstruction and recovery needs over the next 10 years amount to $56 billion.

It will be recalled that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russian Federation has caused 2.2 trillion hryvnias of damage to the Ukrainian environment.

Also, for almost two full years of full-scale war, Russia caused damage to Ukrainian culture in the total amount of 3.5 billion dollars
