Environmentalists assessed the damage caused to the environment due to the Russian shelling of Khadzhybei district of Odesa on November 7 this year.

As reported in the State Environmental Inspection of the South-West District, a fire broke out due to the shelling, which engulfed residential buildings, garages and warehouses.

«But along with the destruction of infrastructure, war causes irreparable damage to the environment. As a result of the fire, almost 50 tons of carbon dioxide — a substance that significantly affects climate change — was released into the atmosphere,» the report says.

Environmentalists note that the damage caused to the environment is estimated at 150 thousand hryvnias.

Information about this case was transferred to the Operational Headquarters of the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine in order to use the data to form a single register of damages caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation.

For reference: Carbon dioxide (CO2 — carbon dioxide) is a colorless gas that has no odor at low concentrations.

We will remind you that ecologists calculated the damage caused to the environment of the Mykolaiv Oblast due to enemy shelling in 2022. Thus, contaminated land was discovered on the territory of the damaged enterprise in Mykolaiv and its divisions in the region. The total amount of damages is about 14.6 billion hryvnias.
