This was reported by Nina Khmelevska, chief specialist of the communications sector of the Regional Service Centre of the State Service of Ukraine for Migration in Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, in a comment to NikVesti.
As is known, the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centre in Mykolaiv recently set up an adapted space for people who use wheelchairs. From now on, they can take the theory test and obtain a driving licence.
«In the near future, we will open a similar space at the service centre in Pervomaisk. There, the theory test is taken on the second floor. We have already planned to purchase the necessary equipment, as there is currently a shortage of technical devices. After purchasing them, a separate area will be set up in Pervomaisk for people with disabilities who use wheelchairs to take the theory test. Photography will take place on the first floor. We plan to implement this in the near future,» said Nina Khmelevskaya.

«We are proceeding from the principle of minimal financial costs, because, unfortunately, these are the times we live in. It is very difficult to calculate everything and obtain funding for these works. They are quite expensive, as the repair and reconstruction of premises today require significant resources. Given that we are a frontline region, large-scale renovations are unfortunately out of the question at the moment. Therefore, we are moving forward in small steps, but they are yielding positive results and allowing people to access certain services,» concluded Nina Khmelevska.
At the end of January, we published an article entitled «How a driving school for people with disabilities works and why passing a theory test in Mykolaiv is still a problem», in which we reported that the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centre in the city is not adapted for people with disabilities. At that time, we reported that people who use wheelchairs could not take the theory test or even obtain a driving licence because the space remained inaccessible.
The regional service centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs told us that it was currently impossible to make the space accessible because the building was over 50 years old. We then asked the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, for a comment, and he promised to meet with the head of the regional service centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Hennadii Pohorelov, to resolve this issue.
Subsequently, on 10 February, the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centre in Mykolaiv set up an adapted space for people who use wheelchairs.
