Residents of Ochakiv are complaining about «speed bumps» around the town — the authorities are officially collecting complaints

The Ochakiv authorities want to find out what residents think about the placement of speed bumps on the town’s roads. Residents have the next 30 days to submit their suggestions.

The relevant directive was signed by Deputy Mayor Oleksii Vaskov, according to NikVesti.

There are two ways to submit a proposal: in person at room 105 of the city council, or via a special online form on the city council’s official website.

However, the city council has stated that requests sent by email or via other communication channels will not be considered. The application must include the applicant’s name, residential address and contact telephone number.

On social media, some residents have expressed the view that speed bumps need to be brought into line with standards, particularly regarding their height and width.

«As for the speed bumps, just bring them up to standard in terms of width and height, and then install as many as are needed,» wrote one user.

Other residents complained that the current designs could damage cars or hinder traffic flow.

«Speed bumps need to be brought up to standard. Low-slung cars are hitting the bumpers,» reads one of the comments.

Some users also expressed the view that they should be removed, as they could hinder the operation of emergency vehicles during emergencies.

The day before, Deputy Mayor Oleksii Vaskov said that there are currently no plans to remove the «speed bumps». According to him, they were installed at the request of residents in areas where road traffic accidents, including fatal ones, had previously occurred regularly.

«Before we installed them — at the request, incidentally, residents of Ochakiv, and not on our own initiative, there were incidents of pedestrians being hit on some stretches of road; on others, there were fatalities and casualties; and on some stretches, accidents occurred practically every year,» he said.

According to the official, in the nearly one year since the speed-reduction measures were installed, there has not been a single accident resulting in injuries on these stretches of road.

«To date, almost a year has passed since they were installed, and on none of these sections where speed-reduction measures — as they are correctly termed, has there been a single accident, a single collision involving a pedestrian, or a single fatality,» noted Oleksii Vaskov.

As a reminder, on 14 July, Russian forces fired two missiles from a «Tornado-С» multiple launch rocket system at Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region. Eight people were injured; five of the injured were hospitalised, whilst three others received medical attention at the scene. Among those injured were utility workers.

The number of injured subsequently rose to nine.
