US and European negotiators have drafted two documents that provide for support for Ukraine after a possible peace deal.

The New York Times reports this with reference to knowledgeable sources.

According to the newspaper, European officials have positively assessed the level of cooperation with the US side for the first time in several months. The documents were drafted during more than eight hours of intensive negotiations in Berlin with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and representatives of the Ukrainian delegation. The meetings were attended by national security officials from about a dozen European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

One of the drafts outlines general security principles and, according to U.S. and European officials, includes commitments similar to NATO's Article 5 guarantees, which oblige countries to assist a state in the event of an attack.

The second document, which U.S. officials call an operational document, contains detailed provisions for cooperation between the militaries of the United States, European countries, and Ukraine. It describes mechanisms for deterring possible future Russian attempts to retake Ukrainian territory.

According to people familiar with the documents, the operational draft contains specific scenarios for responding to possible aggression, as well as clear mechanisms for preventing new invasions and punishing Russia if they occur. At the same time, none of the drafts have been made public yet.

A separate priority is the plan to form the Armed Forces of Ukraine with about 800,000 soldiers in «the peaceful period». They should be provided with modern weapons and training to serve as a powerful deterrent to Russia. For comparison, the German army has about 180,000 soldiers.

The article also notes that the creation of such forces will require constant and significant international support. European diplomats said that the documents contain specific provisions on the necessary military equipment for Ukraine.

In addition, the drafts provide for the deployment of European-led military forces that will operate on the territory of Ukraine to ensure the security of air and sea space. It is expected that these units will be based in the west of the country, far from the front line, and will perform a deterrent function.

The report also describes in detail the role of the United States in detecting possible Russian attempts to conduct «false flag» operations, which could be used as a pretext for resuming hostilities.

It should be recalled that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov said that Moscow is ready to conclude a peace agreement, but does not intend to make concessions on the issue of territories. In addition, he stated Moscow's categorical position against the possible deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine after the war.
