In his New Year's address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the peace agreement is 90% ready, but Ukraine will not accept «weak compromises». And his signature will appear only under a document that will guarantee a strong and lasting peace and will be ratified by partners.
The Head of State said this in his New Year's address to Ukrainians.
The President stressed that these «ten percent», which remained before the final approval of the agreements, are key — they lay down future security guarantees, conditions of peace, the position of Ukraine, the United States, Europe and partners.
«A Budapest piece of paper will not satisfy Ukraine. Ukraine does not need the Minsk trap, which is so elaborately written. Signing weak agreements only fuels the war. My signature will be under a strong agreement,» the President stressed.
He stressed that the intentions should not be just political declarations, but ratified security guarantees approved by the parliaments of the partners.
The President also noted that the world should put pressure on Russia, because it will not end the war on its own, and only the strong support of allies can make the Kremlin stop.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked international partners for their support of Ukraine and participation in the negotiations. At the same time, he stressed that peace must be fair and acceptable to Ukrainians.
In conclusion, he called on Ukrainians to remain united and patient and expressed confidence that with the determination of Ukraine and its partners, peace will be achieved on strong terms.
«All we need is to hold out one day longer than they do... And ten per cent stronger. Then we will win peace one hundred per cent,» Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
As a reminder, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych addressed the city's residents with a New Year's greeting and thanked the military and citizens for their cohesion and endurance.
