Mykolaiv residents complain that courtyard has turned into «mud and puddles» following water utility works

Residents of Mykolaiv are complaining about the condition of the area around their block following repair works carried out by the municipal utility «Mykolaivvodokanal». In particular, residents of the building at 31A, 11 Pozdovzhnia Street, report that the courtyard is left with potholes, stones and rubbish following the works.

Stella Polaris sent a complaint to the Contact Centre group at Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.

She said that the condition of the area has made it dangerous to move about the courtyard, particularly for children and the elderly.

«Potholes and ruts pose a health risk to the elderly and children; there have been cases of people sustaining injuries after falling. Furthermore, the tarmac pavements and the road have turned into a mess of sand, mud and stones; part of the pavement is completely unusable. When it rains, the courtyard turns into a mixture of slippery mud and puddles,» the woman wrote.

According to the Contact Centre, the complaint was registered under number 6899. It was forwarded for action on 8 August. The complaint currently has the status «in progress», and the deadline for completion has already passed. At the same time, it has been placed under additional monitoring until 27 October 2026.

Another resident of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Bychkovskyi, noted that similar situations, where the area is not restored to its proper condition after repair works have been carried out, also occur in other parts of the city.

«There’s a systemic problem with this throughout the city. I’ve also raised this issue on several occasions, but on a different street — I reported it in April, and nothing has been done to date,» said the Mykolaiv resident.

A reporter from NikVesti visited the site and inspected the condition of the area around the building. At present, there are still sections of the courtyard with dug-up ground and loose stones. At the same time, it is clear that attempts have been made to tidy up part of the area, but they have not yet managed to restore the courtyard to its proper condition.

Furthermore, Mykolaiv residents recently asked the municipal utility «Mykolaivvodokanal» to restore the area following repairs to the water mains at the junction of 1st Ekipazhna Street and 11th Voienna Street.

It should be noted that «Mykolaivvodokanal» has announced a tender for the purchase of over 2,500 repair clamps of various sizes. They plan to spend almost 6 million hryvnias on them.

It should be noted that in Mykolaiv, following emergency repair work on the «Mykolaivvodokanal» networks, there are currently 370 locations where the surroundings need to be restored. Of these, the tarmac needs to be resurfaced at 355 sites.

Every year, «Mykolaivvodokanal» launches a tender for the restoration of asphalt concrete surfacing following its own network repairs, and the costs for this work vary each time.

For example, in January 2026, the water utility announced a call for tenders to find a contractor to repair roads at a cost of 13.1 million hryvnias — at that time, there were 460 addresses where the company had not yet restored the road surface following repairs to its networks. In November 2025, 8 million hryvnias were allocated for similar works — this was the lowest amount in recent years.

Even earlier, in April 2025, the water utility had sought a contractor for 13.9 million hryvnias for the same purposes, whilst in February 2024, the plan was to spend nearly 29 million hryvnias on road repairs following water supply network works — he largest sum featured in such tenders.
