EU prepares €10 million support package for independent Ukrainian media

Photo: IRMIThe European Union is preparing a €10 million support package for independent media in Ukraine.
This was reported on the air of «Ukrainian Radio» by the Ambassador of the European Union Katarina Mathernova.
According to Mathernova, support for independent media is one of the key topics in the issue of European support.
«We currently have a €10 million support package for this year for independent media in Ukraine. 7 million of this will be provided through our partners. And in May, the European Union delegation will announce a €3 million call for proposals in two areas,» the ambassador said.
She clarified that one of these areas would be for investigative journalism, and the other would be for support for local and regional media.
As a reminder, on 17 March, Stephen Capus, President and CEO of «Radio Free Europe»/«and Radio Liberty» (RFE/RL), said that a federal grant agreement that funded global operations had been cancelled for the media.
