According to Oleksandr Filchakov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the investigation of such crimes has its difficulties, especially due to hostilities that make it difficult to access the scene of events. However, this case is unique — a person who may become a suspect in the specified proceedings is also in Ukrainian captivity.

«This opens up an opportunity not to use the procedure of proceedings in absentia, but to conduct a fair trial and issue a sentence with actual execution of the punishment,» said Oleksandr Filchakov.

If proven guilty, the suspect may be sentenced to life imprisonment.
