President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian troops launched a massive strike on eight regions of Ukraine during the night, with energy infrastructure once again being the main target of the attack.
According to the head of state, Russia launched nearly 300 strike drones at Ukraine, most of which were Shahed drones, as well as 18 ballistic missiles and seven cruise missiles.
«Once again, the main target of the strike is our energy sector: power generation and substations. Unfortunately, there is a lot of damage to residential and civilian infrastructure,» Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions were shelled.
The president drew particular attention to the strike on the postal terminal in the village of Korotych in the Kharkiv region. According to him, the missile attack had no military significance and resulted in the deaths of four people. Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
The situation in the Kyiv region remains difficult, with several hundred thousand families left without electricity. Emergency services are working on the ground, and resilience centres have been set up.
Against the backdrop of another attack, the President called on international partners to strengthen their support for Ukraine, in particular to speed up the supply of missiles for air defence systems. He stressed that the world must respond to Russian terror with new aid packages, as Russia's attempts to use the cold as a weapon will not lead to victory.
At the same time, the Air Force reported that last night, Ukrainian air defence forces destroyed two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, five Iskander-K cruise missiles and 240 strike drones.
It should be noted that during the week of holidays, from 29 December to 4 January, the Ministry of Energy recorded more than 100 damages to Ukraine's energy infrastructure as a result of Russian shelling.
