A special commission has been set up in Kherson to review the nominations of individuals put forward for state awards and honours. It will assess the candidates’ merits and recommend whether to endorse or reject the nominations.
The relevant order was signed by Yaroslav Shanko, head of the Kherson City Military Administration.
The commission will initially consider nominations for Ukrainian state awards, as well as honours from the President, the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers.
In particular, its members will verify documents, examine candidates’ merits and assess whether the proposed award is commensurate with their achievements. Following its review, the commission will prepare a recommendation — either to endorse the nomination or to reject it.
The commission is headed by Serhii Pavliuk, Chief of Staff of the Kherson City Council’s Executive Committee. Anton Yefanov, Deputy Head of the Kherson City Administration, has been appointed as his deputy.
The commission also comprises heads of departments and divisions of the city council. Among them are representatives from the fields of education, culture, healthcare, legal policy and media relations.
The order states that the new body is to ensure a consistent approach to the consideration of nominations and prevent unfounded applications for awards.
However, the commission itself will not make decisions on the awarding of honours — it will merely carry out a preliminary review of nominations and make recommendations.
It should be recalled that the President awarded state honours to representatives of the Mykolaiv region to mark Constitution Day.
