Russia is using military strikes as a tool of pressure on Ukraine to force it to negotiate, as exemplified by the recent attacks on Mykolaiv and Odesa.

This was stated by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Denmark Andrii Yanevskyi during a hearing at the Danish Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, according to a correspondent of NikVesti.

As you know, on 19 February, the Danish Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs is holding hearings to discuss support for Ukraine in its struggle for freedom. One of the main questions is: «How can Denmark best support Ukraine's fight for freedom?».

Andrii Yanevskyi also responded to the statements of Russian Foreign Minister Serhii Lavrov, who denied Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure during talks in Saudi Arabia on 18 February.

«Lavrov said that Russia does not strike at energy infrastructure facilities. But this is a lie. Yesterday they attacked a civilian facility in Odesa. Mykolaiv is constantly under attack. Two days ago, in the freezing winter weather, they hit the heating system,» said Andrii Yanevskyi.

He also thanked Denmark for its continued support and expressed confidence in victory.

«We will always remember Denmark's support. Together we will win this war. Unfortunately, war has become a new normal for us,» the ambassador added.

Shelling of Mykolaiv on 16 February

On 16 February, at 0:50, the first explosion occurred in Mykolaiv. Later it became known that the city was under attack by drones. By 1:42 a.m., six more explosions had occurred in Mykolaiv.

In the morning, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, said that the strike had damaged critical infrastructure and apartment buildings. At least four shops, a catering facility, and office premises were also damaged.

Later, it became known that as a result of the nighttime Russian shelling, some residents of the city were left without heat supply.

According to the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, work is currently underway to assess the damage and restore heat supply. Currently, 46,000 customers are without heat supply.

Later, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that more than one hundred thousand people in Mykolaiv were left without heating as a result of the strike by Russian Shahed drone.

However, the Mykolaiv CHP plant will not be able to restore the power generation destroyed during the last drone attack by the end of this heating season. The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, said that attacks on Mykolaiv's energy infrastructure occur regularly — once every month or two. However, the latest attack on the CHP plant was the largest infrastructure destruction in recent times.
