A 39-year-old resident of Vradiivka, Pervomaisk District, Mykolaiv Region, who collected intelligence for Russia about the Defense Forces in Mykolaiv Region, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

As reported by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Mykolaiv region, the man tried to establish the exact coordinates of the base of the Ukrainian defenders who are defending the regional center. First of all, he was interested in the geolocations of fortified areas and firing positions of units of the Armed Forces.

It is noted that the intelligence information was needed by the Russians for air attacks by drones on the city.

The law enforcement officers detained the traitor in February 2023, when he tried to pass intelligence on the location of defense facilities to the occupiers.

According to the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the man, on his own initiative, created cartographic materials through the Google Maps service, on which he placed appropriate markings indicating the location of the Defense Forces, roadblocks and critical infrastructure facilities in Vradiivka, which he handed over to a pro-Kremlin blogger on a social network «Vkontakte». He also provided data on the quantitative composition of the Defense Forces, the security of roadblocks, and information on parts of Mykolaiv's rear support.

In addition, the enemy agent repeatedly spread in this social network calls to change the boundaries of the territory or the state border of Ukraine, namely the annexation of Mykolaiv Oblast to the territory of the Russian Federation, and the glorification of persons who carry out Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.

According to law enforcement officers, he came to the attention of the Russian special services as an active user of Russian Internet resources.

In order to carry out enemy tasks, the agent drove around the area in his own car and secretly recorded the «necessary» objects on the phone camera.

During the search of his apartment, computer equipment and a phone with evidence of his activities for the benefit of the Russian Federation were seized.

Based on the collected evidence, the court found him guilty under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 2 of Article 111 (treason committed during martial law);
  • Part 1 of Article 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine);
  • parts 2, 3 of article 436-2 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

The man was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Note: the verdict of the court of first instance becomes legally binding after the expiry of the period for filing an appeal established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, if no such appeal has been filed. In case of filing an appeal, the court decision, if it has not been annulled, becomes legally binding after the decision of the court of appeal (Article 532 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine).

We will remind, a 30-year-old local resident was detained in Mykolaiv, who was spying on the ships of the Armed Forces near the Mykolaiv seaport. The man faces up to 12 years in prison.
