The majority of Ukrainians surveyed (64 per cent) positively perceive the initiative of Ukraine and the United States to agree on a temporary 30-day ceasefire.
This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) on 12-22 March 2025.
The vast majority of Ukrainians — 77% — have a positive interpretation of this proposal. Most often (47% of them), they see it as a way to show that Russia does not want peace or is violating agreements. Another 12% see it as a way to unblock military aid, and 18% see it as a step towards ending the war on terms acceptable to Ukraine. Although attitudes are mostly positive, only a few believe that this is a real start to peace.
At the same time, 17% have a negative opinion. Of these, 8% believe it is a mistake that will weaken Ukraine, 7% — despair over the situation at the front, and 2% — a step towards surrender.
In addition, between 19 and 21 March, after Donald Trump's phone call with Vladimir Putin, the poll added questions about Russia's demands during the negotiations.
These demands include an end to mobilisation, weapons and intelligence supplies from the West. The majority of Ukrainians (79%) categorically reject these conditions, and only 16% are ready to accept them, with 14% finding it difficult to do so. The greatest resistance to the requirements was recorded in the West, Centre and South of the country (80-81%), and slightly lower in the East (64%).
Only 16% of respondents said they were ready to accept these conditions, and 14% of them consider it a very difficult compromise.
The survey was conducted on 12-22 March 2025 by telephone interviews based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers. A total of 1,326 respondents were interviewed in the government-controlled areas. The sample did not include residents of the occupied territories and citizens who moved abroad after 24 February 2022. The statistical error does not exceed 3.5%.
Earlier it was reported that 78% of Ukrainians oppose Vladimir Putin's demand for the complete withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
