The strong winds that battered Mykolaiv on 26 April damaged a section of the heating network in the Lisky neighbourhood. Repair work is expected to be completed in the coming days.

This was reported by Mykola Lohvinov, director of Mykolaivoblteploenergo, in a comment to NikVesti.

The incident occurred in the Lisky neighbourhood, where gusts of wind caused metal supports, to which an overhead heating pipeline was attached, to fall. As a result, part of the pipeline ended up on the ground.

According to the company’s director, repair crews will begin repairing the network today. He emphasised that it is not currently the heating season, so the situation is not critical.

«Repairs to the heating network will begin today, and it will be restored in the coming days. I don’t see anything critical in this yet. It has been damaged, but as it is not the heating season, it is not critical. This happens here; there are winds and trees fall onto the heating network; it happens quite often. So people know what to do. They will now get to work and restore the heating network. It’s not the heating season at the moment, so I don’t see a problem with this,» said Mykola Lohvinov.

As a reminder, yesterday, 26 April, stormy winds in the Mykolaiv region caused trees to fall and power lines to snap. In addition, thousands of people were left without electricity.

During the second half of the day, rescue workers were called out 11 times to deal with the aftermath of the bad weather in the Mykolaiv region.

Two people have died and two others have been injured due to the severe weather conditions in Ukraine. Rescue teams are dealing with the aftermath of the bad weather in 13 regions.

Furthermore, near Mykolaiv, storm winds are scattering dangerous sludge across the surrounding area, which is stored in the sludge ponds of the «Mykolaiv Alumina Plant». Red sludge is the waste left over after processing bauxite into alumina. It is a reddish dust that easily blows away in dry weather.

By the evening, the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration had assured that the situation at the sludge fields of the Mykolaiv Alumina Plant had been contained.

However, on Monday, 27 April, units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and municipal services will be working at the site of the sludge fields to monitor the situation.
