«Guardians of the Deep»: The Ochakiv military unit celebrated its 32nd anniversary

On Tuesday, 5 May, the 84th Arsenal of Mine, Torpedo and Sweeping Weapons of the Ukrainian Navy — military unit A2637 — celebrated its anniversary.

This was reported by the Ochakiv City Council.

The unit’s history began in 1994, when a storage and maintenance base for the Navy’s Armament Directorate was established on the site of the combined armament depot and aviation technical base, they said. It was on 5 May 1994 that the personnel took the oath of allegiance to the people of Ukraine, which became the unit’s official date of establishment.

«In the context of the current war, the unit’s specialists carry out tasks of any complexity, demonstrating resilience and high professionalism. Their work is an invisible but strong shield that protects our maritime borders, land and airspace. The servicemen of A2637 are on round-the-clock combat duty, ensuring the peace of mind of our community’s residents and giving the enemy a fitting rebuff, preventing the landing of troops or the infiltration of sabotage groups onto our coastline,» the statement reads.

To mark the occasion, the servicemen received awards from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine: the «Naval Forces Cross», the «Cross of Honour» and the «Military Cross». The soldiers were also awarded the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s «For Conscientious Service» decoration, certificates and valuable gifts from the Commander of the Ukrainian Navy.

At the same time, for his significant personal contribution to strengthening the country’s defence capabilities and his loyalty to his oath, the head of the 84th Arsenal of Mine, Torpedo and Mine Weapons, Captain 1st Rank Vitalii Kharchenko.

«We wish the defenders good health, an unbreakable fighting spirit and new achievements in their service to the Ukrainian people,» the city council added.

Commander of military unit A2637 Vitalii Kharchenko, in turn, thanked the city authorities and residents of the Ochakiv community for their support.
