Germany has confiscated the Eventin tanker from the Russian «shadow fleet». Now, the cargo of about 100,000 tonnes of crude oil worth 40 million euros will become the property of the state.

This was reported by Spiegel.

«The German government has decided to take tough measures against a tanker belonging to the secret shadow fleet, through which Russia continues to sell oil around the world despite the current sanctions... customs arrested the Panamanian-flagged Eventin tanker, which has been anchored off the coast of Rügen since mid-January», the report said.

It is noted that according to the confiscation order from the Main Customs Administration, the old tanker and approximately 100,000 tonnes of crude oil worth 40 million euros now become the property of Germany. In addition, security sources said that the flag of the Eventin will be changed after the relevant order.

The damaged Eventin initially drifted north of Rügen in mid-January, unable to manoeuvre. Due to the imminent danger of an oil spill, the vessel was towed to waters near Sassnitz and monitored day and night by the coastguard and federal police. Since the end of February, the vessel has been on the EU's list of Russia's shadow fleet.

Earlier it was reported that the UK imposed sanctions on 30 vessels of the Russian «shadow fleet», which were involved in the transportation of oil and oil products worth billions of pounds. This was the largest package of sanctions ever imposed.
