Donald Trump called Vladimir Putin on November 7 and urged him to avoid further escalation in Ukraine.
This was reported by sources of The Washington Post.
According to journalists, during the conversation, Donald Trump advised the Russian leader not to escalate the situation and reminded about the significant US military presence in Europe. He also expressed interest in continuing the dialogue with Putin to discuss the possibilities of «ending the war in Ukraine as soon as possible.»
According to interlocutors of The Washington Post, Trump privately made it clear that he would support a possible version of the agreement, under which Russia would retain control over part of the occupied territories of Ukraine. This issue, according to sources, was allegedly raised briefly during a telephone conversation.
In addition, the government of Ukraine was allegedly aware of this call to Vladimir Putin and did not object to it. Ukrainian officials, according to journalists, are aware that Donald Trump, in the event of continuing negotiations, will cooperate with Vladimir Putin for a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine, seeking a quick end to the conflict.
We will remind you that Donald Trump Jr., the son of the newly elected US president, published a video on his Instagram mocking the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The video says that Ukraine will lose the support of the United States in 38 days.
Election of the 47th President of the USA
Voting in the presidential elections ended on November 6 in the USA — the last polling stations were closed in Alaska. Even before the official results were announced, Donald Trump declared himself the winner of the election. The Republican received 240 votes, while Democrat Kamala Harris received 213.
During the speech in Florida, Trump already made a number of statements. In particular, he assured that he plans to stop all wars in the world.
A number of country leaders have already congratulated Trump on his victory: French President Emmanuel Macron, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. For the first time, they commented on the results of the US elections in China, expressing hope for further peaceful and mutually beneficial relations.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also congratulated US President Donald Trump on his victory in the elections. He noted that he hopes for the implementation of the «peace through strength» approach for a just end to the war in Ukraine.
