In total, over 7,000 tonnes of sand and salt mixture were spread on the region's roads, and traffic is now flowing in most directions.
This was reported by the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, according to NikVesti.
According to him, the weather conditions were extremely difficult — rain almost instantly turned to ice.
«I don't remember such weather, when it rained and immediately froze, for about ten years. Despite the fact that our head of the Road Service has been suspended, I believe that we have done a good job — we are among at least five of the 22 regions that have coped,» Vitalii Kim reported.
He added that icy conditions were recorded throughout the country. In the Mykolaiv region, only one road was temporarily closed at night, and traffic delays lasted about an hour and a half. Currently, all roads have been gritted, with the exception of the frontline areas — Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities, where there is still ice on the roads.
The head of the Regional State Administration also said that more salt was used than planned, even without funding. The main problem was not organisational, but a physical shortage of salt in Ukraine. Therefore, according to him, it was necessary to look for alternative solutions.
In total, 7,720 tonnes of sand and salt mixture have been spread in the region since 26 January. Every day, 278 road workers were involved, along with 104 pieces of specialised equipment and more than 120 pieces of equipment from businesses and communities.
Currently, traffic on state roads in the Mykolaiv region is unimpeded, with no traffic jams, although the road surface remains snow-covered in some places.
Earlier it was reported that due to deteriorating weather conditions, numerous emergency power outages were recorded in the Mykolaiv region. Dozens of settlements and tens of thousands of consumers in most communities of the region remain without electricity.
