This was reported by the State Institution «Mykolaiv Regional Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine» in response to an enquiry from NikVesti.
On 5 May, the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention reported an outbreak of an intestinal infection at one of the entertainment venues: five cases were recorded on 4 May.
In a clarification in response to a request from NikVesti, it was noted that six cases of the disease had been recorded among children under the age of 17. The parents of one child refused hospitalisation and are treating the child on an outpatient basis.
«Five children have been admitted to the Mykolaiv Regional Children’s Hospital with a preliminary diagnosis of «severe gastroenterocolitis». Their condition has now stabilised and is showing positive progress,» the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention stated.
Specialists from the centre, in conjunction with the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, are conducting an epidemiological investigation: they have taken swabs from the establishment’s equipment to test for intestinal bacteria and pathogenic enterobacteria, and are testing the water and staff. Disinfection has also been carried out.
However, the name of the establishment has not been disclosed, as it has not been proven that it was the source of the infection.
According to NikVesti, visitors to Funprostir fell ill. The venue’s Instagram page stated that it is temporarily closed. Disinfection has been carried out there and they are awaiting test results.
As a reminder, in March, seven children were hospitalised with an acute intestinal infection. According to preliminary information from the prosecutor’s office, they had eaten chicken nuggets, pizza and burgers at the entertainment centre. Law enforcement agencies conducted an investigation.
Happy Land closed the venue on its own initiative until 22 March. Disinfection was carried out there. The entertainment centre resumed operations on 26 March. Preliminary results of the investigation have been released.
In April, the parents of 11 children attending a nursery in Voznesensk took their children to hospital. They were diagnosed with gastroenterocolitis. The police launched an investigation.
Voznesensk City Council stated that the situation regarding the children’s acute intestinal infection had been stabilised. As of 28 April, all the young patients had been discharged from hospital in satisfactory condition.
