President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a temporary ceasefire for 30 days could be launched on Tuesday, but Russia «is doing everything to prevent this».
He posted this on his social media.
«Starting Tuesday, we have a ceasefire proposal for military silence in the air, at sea and on the front lines. This is an American proposal. The ceasefire could have already taken place, but Russia is doing everything to prevent it. Putin is lying to everyone about the situation on the ground, especially about what is happening in the Kursk region, where our Ukrainian forces continue their operations», Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
What is known about «30-day silence»?
On 11 March, a Ukrainian delegation met with US representatives in Saudi Arabia. After the meeting, the head of the Presidential Office, Andrii Yermak, said that Ukraine had expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal for a temporary ceasefire for 30 days.
For his part, Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine accepts the US proposal for a temporary ceasefire for 30 days, now «if Russians agree, the silence will work».
Later, on 13 March, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he agreed with the proposal to end hostilities in Ukraine, but that this should guarantee «long-term peace».
In his turn, US President Donald Trump said that Vladimir Putin had made a promising statement, but it was not complete.
