There are 2,340 orphans and children deprived of parental care in the Mykolaiv region. Among them, 910 are orphans whose parents have died or were killed, which is 39% of the total number of children in this category.
This was reported by Iryna Ponomariova, head of the Children's Service of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, according to NikVesti.
According to her, 188,190 children live in the Mykolaiv region, of whom 1.2% are orphans and children deprived of parental care.
«Special attention is paid to these children by the children's service in each community. 2,340 children are registered with the service and have the status of an orphan or child deprived of parental care. As of today, 910 children are orphans whose parents have either died or been killed. This makes up 39% of the total number of orphans and children deprived of parental care,» said Iryna Ponomariova.
According to her, another 1,430 children were granted the status of social orphans. This is due to various circumstances: parents were deprived of parental rights, convicted, are in the temporarily occupied territories, their whereabouts are unknown, or other social problems occurred in the families that affected the upbringing of the child.
As a reminder, in Mykolaiv, a mother of three young children may be deprived of parental rights because she raised them in unsafe conditions and systematically left them unattended.
According to Yuliia Kravchenko, Head of the Children's Service of Mykolaiv City Council, the mother regularly left her children unattended. During the latest incident, the children were left alone in the apartment, without food and proper conditions, while the woman, according to the children, «went to get pills».
