The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has suspended accepting applications from Ukrainians for asylum under the Uniting for Ukraine programme.
This is stated on the USCIS website.
It is noted that the decision to suspend the programme was made in connection with the executive order of 20 January 2025 «Securing Our Borders».
It is noted that the acceptance of Form I-134A, the online application to become a sponsor and the declaration of financial support has been suspended until the service has reviewed all requests that have been submitted earlier.
For reference: the United for Ukraine programme allows Ukrainian citizens and their immediate family members who are outside the United States to come to the country and temporarily stay there for 2 years.
As a reminder, officials of the US Department of Homeland Security have ordered the suspension of a number of programmes that allowed refugees to temporarily settle in the US, including a key initiative that provides entry to the country for Ukrainians.
A Bloomberg Economics analytical study indicates that if Donald Trump succeeds in implementing his plan to fully deport illegal migrants from the United States, the country's economy could lose up to 8% of its gross domestic product (GDP).
