In Mykolaiv, schools and nurseries are equipped with 931 cameras. However, more than 500 cameras still need to be installed.
This is reported in an article by NikVesti on the implementation of updated safety rules in the city’s educational establishments.
Currently, 92 schools and nurseries in the city have cameras. These include 48 schools and a further 44 nurseries. The number of cameras varies from institution to institution: some have only a few, whilst others have over 40 devices. At the same time, a further 16 schools are still not equipped with CCTV systems.
To fully equip all establishments, approximately 533 more cameras need to be installed. The cost of this has not yet been determined, as it depends on the equipment, data storage capacity and installation. At present, no funds have been allocated for this in 2026.
The city’s education department notes that, due to limited technical resources, recordings are stored for up to 15 days in most establishments, although the Ministry of the Interior requires them to be kept for 30 days.
The CCTV systems are monitored by staff at the institutions.
«Surveillance operates 24/7, and in the event of incidents, the relevant video recordings can be reviewed to establish the circumstances of the incident,» the Education Department assures.
It should be noted that in Mykolaiv, 60,7 million hryvnias were spent over five years on the construction of the «Safe City» information and telecommunications system for video surveillance and video analytics. As of December 2025, the project was 95% complete.
We would also like to remind you that the city recently purchased software for 4.6 million hryvnias, which will automatically process traffic data recorded by the cameras.
According to police data, in 2024 the «Safe City Mykolaiv» CCTV cameras helped solve 94 crimes, and in 2025 — already 135.
