More than 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been poisoned by chemicals since the start of Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine.
This was stated by Artem Vlasiuk, head of the Department of Environmental Safety and Civil Protection of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Department of the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a briefing, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
He noted that in total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 2,000 servicemen have been sent to medical facilities with symptoms of poisoning, with varying degrees of poisoning by unknown or known chemical substances, including toxic irritants.
According to him, three Ukrainian soldiers died due to chemical poisoning.
«In three cases, we have a doctors' conclusion stating death as a result of acute poisoning by an unknown chemical substance,» said Artem Vlasiuk.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized that Ukrainian soldiers do not use prohibited chemical substances and comply with international law.
As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has released new data on the number of Ukrainian military casualties since the start of the full-scale war. He says that 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in the war against Russia since then.
