Problems with a sewer main have been identified near the junction of Sadova Street and 68 Desantnykiv Street in Mykolaiv. The city plans to carry out additional repair work and close this section to traffic.
This was announced by Deputy Mayor Yurii Andriienko during a staff meeting on 15 June, according to NikVesti.
According to him, utility workers had previously completed work on the gas venting system from the fire suppression chamber on 68 Desantnykiv Street, on the section between 1st Voienna Street and Sadova Street.
«We did what we had planned. But that only partially solved the problem. We then examined the condition of the existing sewer and found, to put it mildly, a discrepancy in the area around Sadova Street and 68 Desantnykiv Street,» said Yurii Andriienko.
The city council says it is currently assessing the technical condition of the network and looking into repair options. This will take about another month.
«We still need a month to draw up a list of possible works to rectify the situation. We’ll need to divert traffic whilst the works are underway, and so on. We’ll provide an update in a month’s time,» he added.
As a reminder, the most problematic sections for the water utility in Mykolaiv are the sewerage collectors, which are deteriorating due to gas corrosion. With the help of international donors, the company plans to step up the work of its rehabilitation workshop and repair the collectors.
