A presentation of Hanna Polovenko's book Life Like Shards of Glass, in which the author shares her personal memories of life during the war, took place in Mykolaiv.
The presentation took place at the Shipbuilding and Fleet Museum, according to a correspondent from NikVesti.
During the presentation, Hanna Polovenko said that she never planned to become a writer. She only started writing when she felt that she could not remain silent, in order to organise her own experiences and record the emotions that were «literally tearing her apart from the inside».
«This is a new person for us. I was interested in learning about this writer in general. Because someone says, oh, she's new, we don't know her. But we have to find out. I was curious. She is such an optimistic, energetic woman. It's great that she wrote about this topic. It was like we were reliving it. My colleague was sitting next to me, crying. I was comforting her. It brought back memories. This needs to be written about. It's important. And I want there to be a book like this,» shared Olha Mileiko, a visitor to the presentation, with NikVesti.
The author said that the book sometimes contains «painful evidence of life» in a frontline city during the war. The author emphasised that all the characters in the work are real people, and the emotions recorded in the text should help to preserve history.
«The thing is, I wasn't a writer before, so I only wrote when I couldn't help but write. I started writing when I was literally torn apart inside. If I hadn't done that, it would have stayed in my head and kept spinning around. That's why I started writing. When I posted my memories, I began to supplement them with quotes from news sites to tie these personal experiences to my hometown, to specific events, to what was written in the news, to actually confirm it. That's how it all turned out. By the time I finished the book, I wasn't as torn up about it as I had been before. But I understood that I had to finish it, to record that period. It was a very difficult time in my life. I didn't even know if I would live on,» said Hanna Polovenko in a comment to NikVesti.
We would like to remind you that the Shipbuilding and Fleet Museum in Mykolaiv opened a photo exhibition entitled «War through the Camera Lens" by press officers and communications specialists of the Marine Corps. The exhibition was prepared in collaboration with the 30th Marine Corps. The curator of the exhibition, museum researcher Viktor Zadyraka, told an IMI representative that the initiative arose in collaboration with the corps, which brought in authors from various brigades.
As a result, the exhibition consists of works by 12 authors, 10 of whom currently serve in various Marine Corps brigades and work in communications units. The subjects include combat operations, training, the consequences of destruction and damage to military and civilian objects, as well as human stories that emerge even in the most difficult circumstances.
