More than 2,750 men were released from Ukrainian prisons to serve in the ranks of the Armed Forces and participate in combat operations.

This is stated in the material of The Washington Post.

Minister of Justice Denys Maliuska expects that at least 4,000 men will participate in the first round of volunteer recruitment. For now, convicts will serve only in units made up entirely of ex-prisoners.

«The motivation of our prisoners is stronger than that of our ordinary soldiers. Their release is only one part of the motive. They want to protect their country and want to turn the page,» he said during an interview in one of the prisons, where about 100 people have already been released to participate in hostilities.

We will remind that as of June 4, the courts of the Mykolaiv region satisfied 115 petitions of convicts regarding voluntary entry into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Mobilization of prisoners

On May 27, the Mykolaiv Central Court allowed the mobilization of two convicts who expressed their desire to do military service.

As of May 30, the courts have granted 1,843 petitions for parole for military service. Currently, 775 convicts have already joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The potential mobilization resource among prisoners in Ukraine is 15-20 thousand people.
