As of May 2024, the pace of reconstruction of the Mykolaiv region has slowed down. Currently, 30% of the region has been restored, mostly critical infrastructure facilities.

This was announced by the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, on the air of the Yedyni Novyny telethon, NikVesti writes.

«Currently, all efforts are directed to the production of weapons, and the Income Tax Department is directed to these needs. Therefore, the pace of our recovery has slowed down a little. Including, due to the fact that the help of international partners is concentrated on weapons and our defense. In general, 30% of the region has been rebuilt or restored, but disproportionately. There, of course, more critical infrastructure facilities have been restored and, unfortunately, a little less housing,» said Vitalii Kim.

As of February 2024, more than 30% of infrastructure facilities in the Mykolaiv region have been restored. Hospitals and bridges were restored the most, and the residential sector the least.

This year, the Mykolaiv region will receive 1.2 billion hryvnias for the implementation of four projects to restore the region. These funds have already been approved by the budget committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at a meeting on March 25, People's Deputy Oleksandr Pasichnyi told NikVesti. Among the objects are the reconstruction of six sections of the waterworks in Mykolaiv, the restoration of the historical building of the Mykolaiv Gymnasium No. 2, the reconstruction of the Bashtan multidisciplinary hospital and the restoration of the destroyed building of the Mykolaiv Lyceum №60 in Varvarivka.

And last year, the Service for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure in the Mykolaiv Oblast concluded contracts for restoration and repair of objects worth 7.8 billion hryvnias. This is the fourth place in Ukraine in terms of the amount of auctions.

Among the objects to be restored is the bridge in Voznesensk, which is located on the highway H-24 «Blagovishchenske — Mykolaiv». It was destroyed last year during battles with Russian troops for the city, NikVesti reported.

This year, they plan to start work on the restoration of Mykolaiv airport, which was destroyed at the beginning of the Russian invasion.

Prior to that, 789 million hryvnias were allocated from the state budget for the reconstruction of 16 objects damaged by shelling in Mykolaiv region as part of the fund for liquidation of the consequences of armed aggression. In the course of inspections, the State Audit Service found a number of violations in tender purchases for some of them.

Postwar reconstruction of Mykolaiv

Currently, it is known that about 60% of the aid that Denmark sends to Ukraine goes to Mykolaiv and the Mykolaiv region.

At the annual forum of the publishing house «Legal Practice» Business & Legal Infrastructure Forum, the ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine announced the vision of the post-war reconstruction of Mykolaiv with friendly conditions for pedestrians and bicycle infrastructure.

While in Mykolaiv, the ambassador explained that after the end of the full-scale war, Denmark would help Mykolaiv to restore and modernize its shipbuilding capacity.

In addition, Denmark will rebuild the Lyceum named after Mykola Arkas while preserving its authentic appearance. As of September 2023, Ukrainian architects presented Ole Egberg Mikkelsen with reconstruction options.

Another educational institution that will be rebuilt by the Danes is Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding (NUK). The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen is sure that this will revive Mykolaiv as a «city of shipbuilding».

The ambassador also supported the idea of creating a Danish quarter or park in Mykolaiv, but today this issue remains at the idea stage.
