War, people, city: the exhibition «Visual history of Mykolaiv» was presented at *8 Prychal

The exhibition «Visual history of Mykolaiv» about the impact of the war on the city and the moral and psychological state of the local population opened in the public space *8 PRYCHAL in Mykolaiv.

The opening took place on Friday, October 13, the correspondent of «NikVesti» reports.

The exhibition includes the works of 20 authors of the MYPH school of conceptual and art photography.

The exhibition, as the organizers say, is not limited to documentary photography or photojournalism. Instead, it is an artistic reflection, emphasizing that photography is not only a way of recording events, but also a language that can tell a story through emotions, colors, shapes and compositions.

Curator and founder of the school, Mykolaiv photographer Serhii Melnychenko says that the project aims to preserve and present a visual trace of the experience that the city has gone through, to help restore its morale.

— This is the work of 20 of our students. We received a grant to hold this event and we are very glad that we are doing it in Mykolaiv and for the residents of Mykolaiv. The city was on the front line for quite a long time and suffered severe trials. We wanted to show this condition of the townspeople and the impact of the war on Mykolaiv. All works are about our city and our mood today, — said Serhii Melnychenko in a comment to the correspondent of «NikVesti».

The photographer also said that in January the team plans to hold an exhibition in the Ukrainian cultural center in Paris. It is likely that some of the works will be presented there.

It should be noted that among the paintings, the work of the «NikVesti» photographer, MYPH participant Viacheslav Teschner «Searching for oneself in the fog of war» was presented — it decorated the poster of the exhibition.

The exhibition was sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, the Stabilization Fund for Culture and Education 2023 and the Goethe-institut goethe.de.

For security reasons, the organizers did not hold an official ceremony. It will be open until November 30 from 15:00 to 19:00 every Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

As part of the project, it is also planned to hold 5 public program events, which will be announced in more detail on the @myph.art and @8prichal_mykolaiv Instagram pages in advance.
