The Red Cross showed how the checkpoint across the border with the Russian Federation works in Ukraine

The Sumy regional organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine demonstrated the operation of a single checkpoint across the border with the Russian Federation.

Every day, more than a hundred Ukrainians return to the controlled territory of Ukraine through the Pokrovka-Kolotylivka point, the official Facebook page of the society reported.

«Among those who meet refugees in the Ukrainian Sumy Oblast are volunteers of the Red Cross of Ukraine», — they added.

In order to get to Ukraine, people walk through almost 2 kilometers of the «gray zone», the Red Cross reported. At the same time, there are explosions in Pokrovka, so the Ukrainian military does not immediately allow volunteers to cross.

«A resonating question: «is it really not possible to establish transportation?!». It is possible, if the Russian side would provide guarantees of safe access to the «gray zone». A bunch of state institutions and humanitarian organizations (Ukrainian and international) are working on this, but refugees still return on foot and under fire. Volunteers, border guards and military personnel work in this area under the same conditions so that the checkpoint works and Ukrainians can return through it», — the Red Cross explained.

The Red Cross currently determines what technical means are needed for the operation of the checkpoint in the winter period: «SUVs, all-terrain vehicles, Ambulance and fuel for this equipment, as well as various equipment — from radios and searchlights to special stretchers on wheels» while the preliminary list that must be provided .

«Kolotylivka-Pokrovka» is a road crossing point across the Ukrainian-Russian border. It is located on a secondary highway that connects the district center of Krasnopillia, Sumy Region, with the Russian village of Krasna Yaruga, Belgorod Region. The distance to the checkpoint from the militant-occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions is about 500 kilometers. It is almost 1,200 kilometers from the southern regions.

It will be recalled that on August 6, the Ministry of Reintegration announced the restoration of the Kolotylivka-Pokrovka border crossing point on the border of Belgorod and Sumy regions, which was closed after the start of the Great War with Russia. At that time, the officials specified that citizens of Ukraine returning from the temporarily occupied territories would be allowed through the checkpoint.
