President of the United States Donald Trump has said he does not believe Russia's allegations of an alleged attack by Ukraine on Vladimir Putin's residence.
He told journalists about this, Reuters reports.
According to Donald Trump, there was no attack on the residence of the Russian president. He noted that some incident could have occurred nearby, but it had nothing to do with the object claimed by the Russian side.
«I do not believe that this attack took place. Something similar happened nearby, but it has nothing to do with this,» he said.
Earlier, the US Central Intelligence Agency concluded that Ukraine did not attack the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as previously claimed by Russian officials. However, the agency officially refused to comment on these findings.
Donald Trump himself reacted to the situation with restraint. On his social media platform Truth Social, he shared an editorial by the New York Post with the headline «Putin's talk of «attack» shows that it is Russia that is standing in the way of peace».
As a reminder, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that on the night of 29 December, Ukraine allegedly attacked the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the attack took place in the Novgorod region, probably at the residence in Valdai, and 91 drones were allegedly used in the attack.
Ukraine has officially denied these claims. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the information another Russian lie and said that the Kremlin was trying to disrupt progress in relations between Ukraine and the United States. According to him, Russia is not interested in ending the war, and it can only be stopped by increasing pressure on Moscow.
At the same time, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitrii Peskov said that Moscow would rely primarily on dialogue with the United States and threatened to take a tougher negotiating stance.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said that Russia had not provided any evidence of an attack on Vladimir Putin's residence. Kyiv emphasises that these statements are fiction and part of Russian propaganda.
