This was announced by Vitalii Shevchenko, director of ELU Avtodorig, during an open staff meeting today, 2 February, according to NikVesti.
According to him, the city's main thoroughfares were treated two to four times.
«We had nine combined road machines with salt spreaders, which simultaneously cleared snow with ploughs, as well as three large PTR tractors. Over two days, Saturday and Sunday, we used about 408 tonnes of salt. The main roads were treated two to four times. At temperatures below –7–8°C, salt is less effective, so traffic is needed to turn it into a «slush»,» said Vitalii Shevchenko.

«As of today, there are about 704 tonnes of salt left. There are also about 300 tonnes of salt-sand mixture, which is used only on inclines and at temperatures below -8°C for better traction, even on treated roads. We are not particularly counting on it,» said Vitalii Shevchenko.
«I also ask you to pay special attention to the use of sand-salt mixture in front of traffic lights, where cars brake, the braking distance increases, and not all drivers have sufficient experience,» instructed Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych.
Oleksandr Sienkevych also instructed that the approaches to hospitals and schools be checked.
In addition, according to Vitalii Shevchenko, the remaining salt will only be enough for one cold spell.
«In fact, if the winter continues with frosts, this amount of salt will not be enough for us. We have held tenders, but there is no funding yet. That is, we are looking internally, and if we can transfer funds, we will buy it. If not, we will write a letter to the Department of Housing and Communal Services. The remaining amount will only be enough for one such cold weather,» said Vitalii Shevchenko.
Black ice in Mykolaiv
Last week, there was black ice in Mykolaiv. Weather forecasters predicted that the bad weather would continue. In particular, on 28 January, there was light rain with wet snow, and during the day, there was black ice and heavy fog.
On 26 January, 13 people were admitted to hospital with injuries caused by icy conditions. As of 27 January, this number had risen to 60.
Employees of the municipal enterprise Mykolaiv Parks reported that they were working in an enhanced mode due to the icy conditions. They used 22,700 kilograms of anti-icing mixture to treat sidewalks and pedestrian areas.
Subsequently, the first deputy mayor of Mykolaiv, Vitalii Lukov, stated that there were not enough municipal workers to combat the icy conditions in Mykolaiv. Currently, municipal workers are sprinkling salt and sand on the city streets, but only near public transport stops and in areas with large crowds of people. The city authorities are also calling on local businesses to sprinkle salt and sand on the areas surrounding their premises.
Vitalii Lukov also urged Mykolaiv residents to wait out the bad weather at home if possible.
Later it became known that 98 people had been admitted to hospital over the last three days due to icy conditions, most of whom had fallen on slippery pavements.
