Sienkevych commented on complaints regarding route №79 in Mykolaiv

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych has commented on complaints from residents of Varvarivka regarding bus route №79, where bus intervals have increased. According to him, the reason is a shortage of vehicles, but the situation is expected to improve in the near future.

He spoke about this in a comment to NikVesti.

As is well known, residents of Mykolaiv are complaining about the operation of route №79, which is run by the municipal enterprise Mykolaivpastrans. The intervals between buses have grown longer, making it particularly difficult to leave Varvarivka during rush hour.

«The problem lies in the number of buses. We currently have three buses undergoing repairs. We will resolve this issue in the near future. We constantly face problems with this route. If you contact the call centre and search for this route, you can see that similar issues occurred last year as well. We are currently addressing this matter,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

According to Oleksandr Sienkevych, the city is awaiting new buses, which will allow for an increase in their numbers on routes, including this one.

«Furthermore, I very much hope that we will finally receive the full set of new buses; we will consider increasing the number of buses on this route as well, given the increase in the number of vehicles operating across the city. So this issue is currently being worked on. I think that in the second half of March, the new manager will hold a press conference to talk about what he has achieved there over the past month and a half, what work has been done, and what he plans to do in the near future, and at the same time he will report on this route,» added Oleksandr Sienkevych.

Mykolaiv residents complain about route №79 to Varvarivka: what is known

Since February, residents of Varvarivka have been posting in the Contact Centre group on the Mykolaiv City Council’s Facebook page, stating that there are fewer buses on the route and that it is becoming increasingly difficult to catch them . In the comments, Mykolaiv residents added that people are unable to get home to Varvarivka in the evenings.

Subsequently, in early March, Mykolaiv residents complained that buses were only running to the bus station during working hours.

At the time, the municipal enterprise Mykolaivpastrans told NikVesti that the problems with buses in January and February were linked to bad weather and deteriorating road conditions. This caused difficulties not only with transport operations but also resulted in damage to buses, which is why they were taken off their routes. The company noted that some buses require repairs.

The company also added that buses were delayed due to traffic jams on the Varvarivskyi Bridge, where repairs were being carried out. In response to a complaint regarding bus services to the bus station, the municipal company stated that they must comply with labour legislation.

Furthermore, there are fewer buses on the route, as five buses were transferred to Odesa on 21 February, where electric transport has ceased due to heavy shelling of the city.

It should be recalled that at the end of December 2024, buses №79 began running from Troitska Street to the Varvarivka neighbourhood. The city council stated that passenger numbers had increased by almost half. Over the course of the year, the company also overcame a shortage of drivers and almost doubled the number of buses.

In January this year, the director of the municipal enterprise Mykolaivpastrans, Dmytro Teslenko, resigned. He attributed this to poor communication with Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych. The mayor responded that Teslenko’s work had been unsatisfactory.

At the end of 2025, Oleksandr Sienkevych appointed a new head of Mykolaivpastrans — Dmytro Danilenko, a former employee of the Mykolaiv Thermal Power Plant.
