«Of course, this is only a small part of how Sweden supports Ukraine. This aid ranges from humanitarian aid to armaments. And we do it not only because we love Kherson, but also because Ukraine is fighting for the same values that we have,» the ambassador said.

He recalled that the King and Queen of Sweden visited Zmiivka in 2008. And the village itself was founded in 1782 by Swedish settlers.

After the start of a full-scale invasion in 2022, Zmiivka came under Russian occupation. In the same year, the village was liberated.

Due to its proximity to the Dnipro, the Russian army began shelling Zmiivka. This resulted in the damage or destruction of more than half of the houses, as well as a large depopulation — as of June 2024, fewer than 100 people lived in the village out of the 2,800 who lived in Zmiivka before the full-scale invasion, according to MOST.

We will remind you that Sweden allocated more than 56 million euros to help the Ukrainian energy system, in particular Mykolaiv.
