During his visit to Odesa, Czech President Petr Pavel met with the heads of the Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regional sea port authorities to discuss issues of shipping safety.
This was reported by the press services of the Odesa Regional State Administration and the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine.
They recalled that the Czech Republic has provided Ukraine with $900 million in support over the three years of war, ranging from humanitarian programmes to military equipment. The key issues were maritime security and the challenges of demining.
«Since the summer of 2023 alone, Russia has fired more than 450 missiles at Ukraine's port infrastructure, but today we remain the guarantor of global food security. Since the start of the Ukrainian corridor, our ports have transported 110 million tonnes of cargo,» said Oleksii Kuleba.
The meeting was also attended by Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, and Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional State Administration.

The Czech Republic is also planning to expand humanitarian aid to the affected regions, including temporary housing and support for medical facilities.
It should be noted that recently it became known that the authorities in Kherson region are negotiating with international partners to rebuild the maritime infrastructure despite Russian shelling.
Prior to that, the head of the regional military administration, Vitalii Kim, said that Mykolaiv ports were ready «even tomorrow» to resume their work. Before the full-scale invasion, the ports of Mykolaiv region played a key role in the region's economy, accounting for about 40% of its gross regional product.
